In very ancient times, Bacchus planted the vine
On the rolling hills of the Pays de Vaud.
He found that his wine was certainly worthy
To be bottled as soon as it came out of the barrels.
But when he withdrew from its propitious shadow
All this hidden and slowly aged gold
No one could refuse to be his mate…
And cheerfully toast from dawn to dusk.
But the hard after-effects of these somewhat festive days
For these heroes, victims of passions,
Painful moments; and it is said by contrast
That they had certainly not ‘sucked corks’.
Today, oh marvellous, the Confiseurs Vaudois
Have invented for those who love good things
A “cork” that you simply take with two fingers
And that you can enjoy without limiting the quantity.
Gourmets listen up: in these magical “Bouchons”
You’ll find a wide variety of tastes:
Almonds, chocolate, sugar…
These “Bouchons” we’re offering you are from a good house
IT WAS OVER A FONDUE THAT THE “BOUCHONS VAUDOIS” WERE BORN
In 1948,
The Société vaudoise des confiseurs-pâtissiers-chocolatiers-glaciers gave birth to the delicious Bouchons Vaudois. The story goes that at a meeting in January of that year, the president came up with the idea of creating a typical Vaud confectionary. Gathered around a fondue, the members debated until the president exclaimed, grabbing a bottle cork: ‘We’ll make corks! “The idea was born and the final recipe, developed by a commission, was inspired by the expertise of Mr Hans Moeschberger. Today, these delicacies have become much more than a culinary speciality; they symbolise excellence in craftsmanship and are cherished by many pastry chefs and confectioners who continue to make them with passion.
